Communication Letter 2023 22

1.  IISHF Title Events 2024 previously sanctioned.

The IISHF Presidium has previously sanctioned and announced the following two IISHF Title Events 2024:

  • IISHF U13 European Cup 2024 on 21-23 June 2024 in Rossemasion, Switzerland (A2024-02). Opening Ceremony on Friday with 1 or 2 games on Friday Evening games if teams are willing to play.
  • IISHF Men European Championships 2024 on 20-22 September 2024 in Amstetten, Austria (A2024-01). Opening Ceremony on Thursday Evening.

 

2.  IISHF U16 European Cup 2024.

The IISHF Presidium has decided that Düsseldorf Rams (Germany) will host the IISHF U16 European Cup 2024. The event will take place on 10-12 May 2024 in Düsseldorf (Germany) with 10 teams as sanctioned by the IISHF Presidium (A2024-05). Opening Ceremony on Friday with 1 or 2 games on Friday Evening if teams are willing to play.

3.  IISHF Women European Cup 2024.

The IISHF Presidium has decided that Bockumer Bulldogs (Germany) will host the IISHF Women European Cup 2024. The event will take place on 25-26 May 2024 in Krefeld (Germany) with 8 teams as sanctioned by the IISHF Presidium (A2024-04). Opening Ceremony on Friday Evening. 

4.  IISHF U19 European Cup 2024.

The IISHF Presidium has decided that Crefelder SC (Germany) will host the IISHF U19 European Cup 2024. The event will take place on 31 May -2 June 2024 in Krefeld (Germany) with 10 teams as sanctioned by the IISHF Presidium (A2024-03). Opening Ceremony on Friday with 1 or 2 games on Friday Evening if teams are willing to play.

 

5.  IISHF Men Challenge Cup 2024.

The IISHF Presidium has received information from the Swiss Federation that SHC Rolling Aventicum (Switzerland) will apply to host the IISHF Men Challenge Cup 2024 on 14-16 June 2024 in Avenches (Switzerland) with 10 teams. Opening Ceremony on Friday with 1 or 2 games on Friday Evening if teams are willing to play.

 

6.  IISHF Men European Cup 2024.

The IISHF Presidium has received information from the Swiss Federation that SHC Rossemaison (Switzerland) will apply to host the IISHF Men European Cup 2024 on 27-30 June 2024 in Rossemaison (Switzerland) with 10 teams. Opening Ceremony on Thursday with 1 or 2 games on Thursday Evening if teams are willing to play.

 

7.  IISHF U19 European Championship 2024.

The IISHF Presidium has received information from the Swiss Federation that IH Sayaluca Lugano (Switzerland) will apply to host the IISHF U19 European Championship 2024 on 13-15 September 2024 in Lugano (Switzerland). Opening Ceremony on Friday with 1 or 2 games on Friday Evening if teams are willing to play.

 

8.  IISHF Veterans European Cup 2024 still open

For the IISHF Veterans European Cup 2024 this event is still open for applications. IISHF encourages

NMA’s and interested clubs to make a formal application.

 

Currently the following weekends are still open:

  • 07-09 June
  • 16-18 August
  • 23-25 August

 

Please note as previously informed that without applications until 15 November 2023 that the relevant Title Events 2024 might not take place. IISHF will announce the updated listing of IISHF Title Events 2024 latest on 30 November 2023.

  

9.  About possible other IISHF Title Events 2024

For the following IISHF Title Events no official applications have been received so they are in according to the IISHF Regulations still open for 2024:

  • U10 European Cup
  • Masters European Cup
  • U16 European Championships
  • Women European Championships
  • Veterans European Championships
  • Masters European Championships

 

However please note that none of the above IISHF Title Events except the Women European Championships have ever been hosted before and the IISHF Presidium will strongly encourage the NMA’s to ensure first that other NMA’s will support the specific Title Events with a minimum of 8 participating teams from minimum 3 countries for an European Cup / Continental Cup.

For the European Championships/Continental Championships the minimum participating teams are 4 teams and in addition a 4-year plan of participation and hosting is essential. In addition, for Championships most NMAs will need to plan their participation and/or hosting at least one budget year in advance.

 

In order to restart the Women European Championships/Continental Championships IISHF expects a 4-year commitment first to be delivered in regards to participating and hosting. The first year to expect that to take place should be with a minimum of year notice so at this moment it would be from 2025 or whenever the expected commitment has been delivered.

 

10.  About combined IISHF Title Events

As decided by the “IISHF Working Group 2023 Title Events” (reference is made here to CL 2023-15) for all European Championships:

 

  • Preliminary games should be played as minimum 2 x 20 minutes stopped
  • First game to start earliest at 00 AM.
  • Last game to start latest at 00 PM.

Thus, to have two IISHF Title Events at the same time there should be at least one rink for each category and the infrastructure should be sufficient to host additional teams and the participating NMAs should be supportive of the approach.

If a host wants to have additional games at an IISHF Title Event better alternative options would be to include domestic games and/or friendly international games.
