CL 2022-16 provides important updates about IISHF Title Events in 2023.
1. IISHF U13 European Cup 2023 - second application received
In addition to the application mentioned in the IISHF Communication Letter 2022-14 as of 23 September 2022 from SHC Givisiez (Switzerland) for the hosting of the IISHF U13 European Cup 2023 in Givisiez (Switzerland) on 28.-30.04.2023 a second application has now been delivered from Duisburg Ducks (Germany) for the same event in the same weekend.
2. Hosting of European Championships 2023
Please note that the deadline for the announcement of the IISHF European Championships 2023 according to the IISHF Regulations §18.16 is actually latest 30 October however in IISHF Communication 2022-14 we fixed the deadline 31 October 2022 for applications of the open Title Events 2023 and that IISHF will announce the updated listing of IISHF Title Events latest 15 November 2022.
IISHF Regulations §18.16:
a) The U19 European Championships and the Men European Championships shall take place each year under the provision that the relevant event shall be officially announced by the IISHF until October 30th in the previous year. IISHF Presidium will be entitled to nominate another host in case of time cancellation by the original host.
3. Conditions for NMA if not hosted European Championships within last 10 years
In the IISHF Regulations it’s fixed in the §9.1 and §9.2 IISHF Regulations what the consequences are for a NMA if not hosted over the last 10 years. Thus Participation Fees as well as Referee and Officials will be doubled.
IISHF Regulations §9.1:
If a National Member Association takes part with a National Team, over the last 10 years, at a European Championships and has not hosted (or made an official application that was unsuccessful) a European Championships in the same age group during that period, the Participation Fees will be doubled. For new National Member Associations this will not start until first participation within that age group.
The Host National Member Association of Each European Championships will be reimbursed no later than 14 days before the event with 50% of all Participation Fees that have been paid to the IISHF.
IISHF Regulations §9.2:
If a National Member Association takes part with a National Team, over the last 10 years, at a European Championships and has not hosted (or made an official application that was unsuccessful) a European Championships in the same age group during that period, the Referee and Officials Travelling Fees will be doubled.

4. Agreement made in regards to hosting of IISHF U19 European Championships
Please take note of the agreement which was made between Austria, Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland that starting in 2018 these four countries shall host the IISHF U19 European Championships each once in the next 4 four following years sequence. This would mean that next year 2023 it is the duty of Austria to host the IISHF U19 European Championships.
5. IISHF Title Events Applications for remaining IISHF Title Events 2023 - reminder
For the following IISHF Title Events as mentioned in the IISHF Communication Letter 2022-14 no applications have been received so they are still open for 2023:
- U19 European Cup
- Men European Cup
- Veterans European Cup
- Masters European Cup
- U19 European Championships
- Men European Championships
Please remember that without applications until 31 October 2022 that the relevant Title Events 2023 might not take place. IISHF will announce the updated listing of IISHF Title Events latest 15 November 2022.
