3. NMA Annual Reporting Statistics

At the IISHF AGM 2020 in Moscow it was agreed that all NMA provide detailed information on key performance indicators as part of the annual reporting to IISHF on 15 January. Based on the information provided the below statistical overview for the year 2020 was created. We would like to stress that 2020 was a special year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is reflected in information from Austria missing and other information being underreported, for example the number of players reported in several countries. In addition, other than clubs and teams all information is provided to IISHF for the first time in history. The result is a joint learning process on the quality of the data. Not all rinks have been reported, some countries have not reported referees and/or officials. The information is published to enable the skater hockey community to identify and elaborate on growth opportunities. We believe that transparency will aid our beloved sport in its development.

We intend to use this dataset in order to promote the sport and attract sponsors for our livestreaming etc. in order to do so we need to have some basic data even though we are aware that the dataset is not always direct comparable since the structure and setup in the various member countries is not always the same.

In addition to the absolute figures provided by the NMA, we have conducted some ratio analyses based on their relation to the national population of a country. These ratios were subsequently used to depict a relative ranking among the NMA on particular KPIs.

IISHF and its NMA continue to work on the quality of the data provided with the annual reporting. All NMA's (NMA contact/delegates) will receive the Excel file that contains further analytical details, e.g. on male and female players, types of rink available in each NMA, etc.
